Solihull
Carnival started in the early 30’s and has been
going strong ever since. It is now organised by
Shirley Round Table and
Shirley Ladies Circle and takes place in Tudor
Grange Park on the second Saturday after the Whitsun
Bank Holiday (usually the first Saturday in June)
The Carnival starts with a small event on Wednesday
when Bob Wilson’s funfair is opened for a private,
ticket only event for children with special needs.
They are able to go on all the rides with carers
without the hustle and bustle that exists on the
other evenings. The funfair opens to the general
public on the Thursday evening and remains open
until Saturday night.
Carnival itself starts on Saturday morning when the
procession brings the crowds down to the ground. The
park is full of events and stalls and there are
plenty of places to eat and drink and enjoy.
There are really two objectives for the Carnival.
The first is to raise funds for local charities and
the second is to put on an entertainment spectacular
for the people of Solihull. If it sounds like
something you’d like to be part of, contact us about
joining Round Table or Ladies Circle – you’ll be
most welcome.
