Solihull Carnival has been going
for many years. Shirley Round Table have been
involve since 1955 (Shirley Table was only formed
that year!) and within the Carnival committee there
is a wealth of experience of running such and event.
A really interesting snippet
found on
YouTube about Carnival in the 1950's!
Here is a picture of the Wilson's
Funfair taken around 1955. Anyone with
more information about the early days of Carnival
are welcome to contact us!

Here we see a photo of
the earliest Carnival Queen, Mary Birch, who was we believe the
first Solihull Carnival Queen in 1932! The photo's she is holding
shows her when she was about 17 at the time she was Carnival Queen,
although in the main photo she is just a few years older. In fact,
it seems this was taken in the early 1980's!
This
is a picture of the Carnival King and Queen of 1935, Mr. Ted Sarsons
and Joan Bragg.
This
is a photo believed to be of a group in the procession sometime
during the 1930's, although we are not quite sure when. Can anyone
help us?
This
is the Solihull Air Training Corps 496 Squadron Band sometime in the
late 1940's. They seem to be leading at least part of the
procession! Can anyone determine what type of trucks they used for
the floats then?
The
last picture we have been sent (so far) is of Dorothy and Carol seen
in front of the Funfair in 1954 or 1955.
